Protect your emails from attack from viruses hidden in HTML files. Microsoft Outlook 2003 now includes a feature that will block HTML content.
Those of us who don't use Microsoft Outlook 2003 need the free file,
Email Sentinel Pro, to rescue us from the dangers of HTML.

Problems with HTML
Remember those days when the simple "Don't open attachments" was enough to keep you safe from nasty email viruses?
An attachment with an .exe at the end was the one problem, and you knew that opening it was very risky, especially if you did not recognise the sender
That was before viruses such as BubbleBoy and the dreaded KakWorm.
The problem now is that just reading your email puts you at risk, even if it's just loaded in the preview pane.
Why? A security flaw in Outlook and Outlook Express lets scripts run inside an HTML email.

Viruses aren't the only reason to be concerned about HTML email. Spammers use Web bugs hidden in the HTML to track anyone who opens their email. The Web bug verifies your address and tells the spammer its has a live one.

Fight the problem
Email Sentinel Pro works with POP3, IMAP, and HTTP (Hotmail) accounts, automatically converting incoming HTML email into plain text.
You can also choose to allow HTML email but disable images, nested scripts, or HTML forms. It's safer to stick with the default setting.
You can also block certain types of attachments, including .exe and .vbs. If you still want to receive HTML email from certain people, add them to your white list. Their email will come through unblocked.
